Why the “Ex”?

Well, if you’ve seen any of my videos, you’re probably wondering why I call myself “The Guitar Master”. The reasons are twofold.

  1. First of all, it’s only supposed to be an awesome name for a website.
  2. Secondly, I used to be much better when I spent a whole shed load of time practicing.

I used to play a lot. Like, a whole lot lot. Like up to 8 hours a day. I was fortunate to be able to fit so much practice time in around my studies, but this has decreased over time since getting a proper job, moving away from home, fitting in family visits, home improvements, etc. blah. blah. blah.

Enough of the excuses. The situation as it stands is, I’m rusty. I find an occasional 10 or 15 minutes here or there to practice and I spend that time inanely tinkering around, trying to make little riffs that, frankly, aren’t that great. I hardly ever practice the proper classical pieces I spent so long learning. And I hardly ever plug in and lose myself in hours of lead solo practice the way I used to. This is where youtube has come to my rescue.

It felt appropriate for a website such as this for me to post some videos of myself, trying to demonstrate that I at least play guitar. The result is that I’ve forced myself to listen to the results and, well, they’re not pleasing to me. This is a very positive thing. Since doing so, I’ve actually focused some of my efforts into some proper practice time, and my playing is improving a little again.

The “Ex” will remain until such time at which I feel worthy to remove it. If I ever do remove it, then “The Guitar Master” is still simply an awesome name for a website, but hopefully less far from the truth.
